New Phishing Attempt Targeting Churches

Phishing Emails

We want to make you aware of a new phishing attempt currently targeting many church communities, including ours. We have received reports of IPC members receiving fraudulent messages inquiring about membership and giving portals. These messages may ask for help accessing the IPC membership directory or setting up a new profile, and in some cases, request that you email a PDF copy of the entire directory.

Please know that these requests are not legitimate and are not coming from new or existing IPC members. They are attempts to gain access to the information in our membership directory.

To help safeguard your information, IPC staff take careful steps to verify each individual before granting access to the directory or online giving systems. At this time, we have no reason to believe that any information has been compromised.

To protect yourself, please follow these precautions:

  • Do not share or forward any church member’s information via email or text unless you have verified the request directly with the member or the church office.
  • Be cautious of emails asking for help with online giving or directory access, especially if you don't recognize the sender.
  • Check the sender’s email address carefully; scammers often use addresses that closely mimic real ones.
  • When in doubt, contact the church office or a staff member to verify.
  • Report any suspicious messages to the church office immediately.

Take care out there. Please don't hesitate to contact the church at any time if you suspect a suspicious email from a member or IPC staff.

Thank you for helping us protect one another by staying vigilant and reporting anything suspicious.
